New York, New York

I had a fabulous trip to New York. Here are some art highlights…..

Elizabeth Peyton, Michelle and Sasha Obama Listening to Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention August 2008

Elizabeth Peyton show at the New Museum of Contemporary Art. Although I just found out this week that they added an additional painting –something rarely done at a museum show, but given the enormity of Tuesday’s election it seemed like a good idea! Sasha and Malia are the perfect age for my paintings…now if I could just figure out a way to set up a photo shoot with them….

Catherine Opie at the Guggenheim. My favorite room was the Icehouses/Surfers room.

Van Gogh and the Colors of Night at MOMA

Polixeni Papapetrou, Rope

At Foley gallery I was able to see all of the images from the Polixeni Papapetrou show even though I had just missed the show since they were so kind as to pull things out for me since I love her work. (And she is another Australian artist that focuses on girls as subject matter!)

Cecily Brown
at Gagosian. The entire huge gallery was devoted to her work. She happened to be inconspicously viewing the exhibition herself and I recognized her and so went and said hello and chatted to her for a few minutes. She was super nice!

I liked Melanie Votes’s small paintings in the back room at DFN gallery.

I went to the PDN Photo Plus Expo/conference and was loving the Canon booth. I have my new lens and camera picked out…now I just need the economy to pick up a little 🙂

I caught up with Amy Lincoln who was an undergrad at UC Davis when I was working on my MFA. She is currently working on these super cool small paper collages. And then of course out to Brooklyn to see Jack the Pelican.

And I also managed to catch two very different Broadway shows with friends –A Tale of Two Cities, and Young Frankenstein –both excellent.

I missed the Morandi show at the Met since I left it until Friday evening and literally ran out of steam. A drink at the Carlyle was more in order.

And yes that is me below raking leaves in the Poconos at my friend’s weekend house!
