New York, New York

I had a great trip to New York!
Here are some highlights:

Neo Rauch at the Met — Amazing work. Below his large piece on the back wall is framed by Alex Katz and Chuck Close in the foreground –what a treat. Rauch’s exhibition “Para” was in a room directly to the left with lower ceilings so the big painting (116 x 164 inches) was shown in this room.

A few notable shows from a day visiting Chelsea galleries include:

Jules de Balincourt @ Zach Feuer
I love his paintings but I’m not quite sure why he needed to include a bad sculptural installation piece –that seems to be a trendy thing to do these days–but I find it quite a bore.

Julie Heffernan @ PPOW
Crazily decadent lush paintings –gorgeous!

Julie Blackmon @ Claire Oliver
Digitally composed images of children & household scenes.

Natalie Frank @ Mitchell-Innes & Nash
I’d never heard of her so this show was a nice surprise. She’s a young (b. 1980) figurative painter.

Chelsea Art Museum

There was a rather busy so-so show at the Chelsea Art Museum titled “The Incomplete” but they had a lot of work by Ridley Howard and Karen Kilimnick which was fun to see.

Other Art related activities:

Out to Williamsburg in Brooklyn to visit Jack the Pelican Presents who started showing my work earlier this year.

MOMA of course, although I was disappointed that the contemporary galleries were shut for installation but I did enjoy seeing the “New Photography 2007” exhibition in addition to their amazing modern art collection which is always stunning to see.

And if you happen to be walking around 23rd St & 5th Ave check out William Wegman’s video installation in Madison Square Park –it’s quite funny!

And of course my show opening at domogallery in Summit, NJ. The show looks great and I got to meet a number of collectors that have bought my work which was wonderful. My friend and I spaced on taking photos during the opening but here’s one from just before….

I ended my busy week with a relaxing trip to my friend’s weekend house in the Poconos –which was a treat and I also had a chance to take some photographs.

Oh, and let me mention that we frequented 8th Street Wine Cellar in Greenwich Village during the week. My friend’s husband recently opened this intimate bar which also has lots of yummy small plates –think cheese, pate, meat plates, salad etc and even super yummy pistachio ice cream to finish!
