Office Of The San Francisco District Attorney Exhibition
I am very pleased that “The Dreamers” will be on display for a year at the Office Of The San Francisco District Attorney as part of an exhibition for the victims’ and families’ lounge as well as public facing hallways of the SFDA’s Office. The curation was to highlight work that inspires a “visual retreat from adversity, with the aim of generating a sense of comfort, ease, and well-being.”
Curated by Dr. Meghan Lewis MacLeod— ecofeminist, abstract, mixed media artist, curator, consultant, counselor, and coach.
This painting is very special to me and is filled with hope so I was delighted when it was selected. And it was lovely to receive a note from the curator that my painting was hand picked by the DA herself to be installed in the most prominent area!
More about the painting... I felt so inspired, hopeful, and grateful watching kids perform salsa dancing in a dusty, rural South African school yard after spending a week with them as part of my daughter’s school delegation trip. I wanted to make a painting inspired by these kids, who were so joyful yet also growing up in challenging conditions. I was completely enamored with the smallest pair in the dance troupe. Besides talent, they took their performance in front of us and their peers very seriously and I wanted to make a realistic portrait of them. I chose the lush rainforest setting symbolically thinking of the idea of abundance, chaos, music, light, and beauty. Words that also seem to align with dreaming big.
I am delighted that “Wild Lake” was selected by gallerist Anthony Meier for “Strictly Abstract” an online exhibition at O’Hanlon Center for the Arts. The open call to artists requested fresh, nonrepresentational work that inspires, evokes, and conveys the essence of their art. The juror selected 37 pieces from over 700! It’s a beautiful show, …take a look here https://www.ohanloncenter.org/2024/04/strictly-abstract-2024/ and you can also download a PDF catalog with more info on each artist .
I am honored to be on the jury selection panel for the 2024 MOFSA Spiritual Art Grant (of which I was a grant recipient in 2022)! If you are an artist or know one that might be interested, the deadline to apply is 3/31/24.
Spiritual art is transcendent. Spiritual artists are seekers. They are lovers. Their desire is for the flourishing of the human community. MOFSA is looking for individuals who are actively seeking the transcendent through their art as evidenced by a supportive body of work and a desire to create more. Please visit the MOFSA website to find out more about applying for their $10,000 grant and being featured in their next virtual exhibit in December 2024.
